Vaccine Discovery Group

About the Group

The Vaccine Discovery Group is dedicated to advancing the basic sciences that lay the foundations for vaccinology and immunology.

Supporting the translation of discoveries from lab to clinic, the group unites expertise in bacteriology, molecular biology, virology, and immunology to identify and characterize novel vaccine targets and evaluate platform technologies, formulations and adjuvants in in vitro and in vivo animal models.

Central to our mission is ongoing collaboration with industry leaders and close interaction with the Center’s Vaccine Evaluation and Policy, Programs and Implementation groups, driving impactful innovation and real-world application.

Vaccine Evaluation Group

The Vaccine Evaluation Group is dedicated to every stage of vaccine research, from initial clinical trials to comprehensive program assessments, specializing in developing and conducting first-in-human phase 1 studies, as well as post-licensure phase 4 trials. The Evaluation Group works with external partners to evaluate the real-world effectiveness of vaccines, examining their impact on disease burden, vaccine compliance, and public acceptance.

The Group plays a key role in the Center’s integrated, multi-disciplinary vaccine research approach, partnering closely with industry, external organizations, and the Vaccine Discovery and the Policy, Programs and Implementation (PPI) Groups to drive innovation and public health progress.

Policy, Programs, and Implementation (PPI) Group

The Policy, Programs, and Implementation Group offers cross-cutting expertise in health law, bioethics, policy development, and social sciences. This diverse skill set enables the team to assess the potential public impact of new vaccines and technologies, guiding research during both the discovery and evaluation stages.

By understanding public opinion, evaluating vaccine acceptability, and addressing governance and commercial issues, the Group ensures that innovative research plans are both feasible and impactful. Their work also includes strategic collaboration with external organizations, significantly strengthening the Center’s capacity to address global health challenges with speed and precision.
